The idea of a reality beyond its immediate appearance runs through art history as a recurring motif. From the metaphysical painting of modernism to the visual worlds of surrealism, the familiar is subjected to a shift that places the seemingly self-evident in a new relationship to reality. The miraculous arises where the order of things does not dissolve, but rather reconstitutes itself according to previously unknown laws.
In the encounter between Marina Sailer and Tim David Trillsam, this idea becomes present in a dialogue between painting and sculpture. Their works explore, in different ways, the relationship between appearance and meaning, form and space, objectivity and imagination. This opens up an aesthetic space of experience in which the visible transcends itself and the boundaries between perception and imagination become permeable.
The logic of the marvelous thus denotes a distinct order of the aesthetic – an order in which the improbable does not appear as a contradiction to reality, but rather as an extension of it.
